The 17-year old Sunik Kum, from Hong Kong but attending boarding school in Concord, NH, creates lush, sample-heavy beats akin to a tropicalia-influenced Caribou. “Useless” quietly, but swiftly progresses, as if on an important journey. Nicknamed Beat Culture, he calls himself “post dub” and “experimental pop,” but it may be better described by just… listening to his dreamy vocals, sampled pianos and summer synths.
He recently released his second EP on a Mexican compilation called “Materia Obscura” by Bad Pop and it has quickly gained the attention of MOKB and Life Aquatic, and over 1900 likes on Hype Machine. Watch out, this may just be your next summer jam.
